Review your current plans and think about next year

A lot can change in a year. Maybe you’ve welcomed a new family member—or you’re expecting one. Maybe you expect more medical bills next year. Maybe less. Take a fresh look at your plans and decide if what you have still works for you.

Before Open Enrollment (Now – November 1): Consider what you’ll need in 2027

Your needs can change from year to year. Think about:

Do you have any planned procedures, ongoing prescriptions, specialist visits, or other anticipated care? If you are, make sure to keep scrolling down this page to learn about other IMI benefits that could financially help.

Don’t just look at paycheck costs. Look at those and what your out of pocket cost could be if you need to get care. That’ll give you a better sense of what your health care costs could be next year.

A good rule of thumb is to add the out-of-pocket maximum and the annual cost of your plans – the biweekly rate times 26 paychecks per year. That’ll help you understand your total potential cost each year if the unexpected happens.

If you want to save pre-tax money for health care expenses, calculate how much you want to contribute to a tax-advantaged account.

The Health Savings Account is available if you’re enrolled in the HSA High or HSA Low plan. Don’t forget that IMI also makes a contribution to this account each year.

In 2027, you can contribute up to $4,000 if you only cover yourself on your medical plan or $8,000 if you cover anyone else. These amounts are in addition to IMI’s contribution of $500 if you only cover yourself or $1,000 if you cover others.

If you’re in the HDHP, you can also contribute additional money to a Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for eligible dental and vision expenses only (and medical expenses after you meet your medical plan deductible). Currently you can contribute up to $3,400 (subject to change for 2027).

You can save in a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) if you’re enrolled in the PPO or Kaiser plans, or if you waive medical coverage.

You can save up to $3,400 (subject to change) – but plan wisely. Any money you don’t use will be lost if you don’t submit eligible claims by March 31 of the following year.

Your dependents are the people you cover under your IMI health plans, and your beneficiaries are the people who receive financial benefits if you die or are seriously injured. Make sure they are both up to date.

During Open Enrollment (November 2–11): Enroll

Log in to PlanSource to enroll and confirm your benefits for 2027. You can also call PlanSource at 1-844-347-2498.

After Open Enrollment (November 12 – January 1): Get ready for your new benefits

When you’re done enrolling, save a copy of your confirmation statement for your records. This is your proof of enrollment.

Watch for your new medical ID cards if you enrolled in a new medical plan. These will come to you in late December.

If you enrolled in a Health Care FSA, Limited Purpose FSA, or newly enrolled in the Health Savings Account, you’ll be mailed a new debit card. That’ll also come in December, and typically arrives in an unmarked envelope.

Open Enrollment is about more than just your medical benefits.

There are other benefits you can choose that could make a big difference if something unexpected happens in 2027. Take a closer look.

Supplemental Life Insurance
It provides additional financial support to the people you choose if you die.

Critical Illness Insurance
It pays you cash if you’re diagnosed with a covered serious illness, like cancer, a heart attack or stroke.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance
It pays you cash for certain hospital stays to help with expenses that come with being in the hospital.

Accident Insurance
It pays you cash for certain covered injuries and related care.

Supplemental AD&D Insurance
It provides additional financial protection if a covered accident results in death or certain serious injuries.

Legal Plan
It gives you access to free legal help for many common personal matters.

Identity Theft Protection
It can help protect your personal information and provide support if your identity is stolen.

This is your annual opportunity to update your benefits for the year ahead. If you don’t take action now, your current elections will carry over into 2027, except any contribution amounts you’ve set for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) or Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Those need to be updated each year.

The only other chance to update your benefits during the year is if you experience a qualifying life event, like getting married or divorced, welcoming a child, or losing coverage elsewhere.
