Prescription Drugs

All of the IMI medical plans include prescription drug coverage.

What you need to know

How it works

If you choose one of the HSA plans or the PPO plan, you receive prescription drug coverage through Anthem’s Carelon Rx program. Kaiser participants receive prescription drug coverage through Kaiser.

What’s covered

Covered medications are divided into tiers: Generic, Preferred Brand, and Non-Preferred Brand. In general, generics are the lowest-cost and prices increase with each tier. Some medications may be subject to prior authorization, quantity limits, or step therapy.

Your cost

Preventive medications on the ACA preventive drug list are offered to you at a low cost and, in some cases, free! Other prescriptions are priced according to their tier, as shown in the chart below. You can use HSA or FSA funds to pay for eligible prescriptions.

Do you take a prescription drug on a regular basis?

If you take a prescription drug (sometimes they may be called maintenance medications) on a regular basis, you must have that medication delivered to your home through Anthem’s mail order pharmacy (Carelon) or filled at a local CVS Pharmacy. You’ll save time and money — a 90-day supply costs the same as two-and-a-half months at retail. You can get two fills at your regular pharmacy before you need to switch to home delivery or use a CVS Pharmacy. For specialty drugs, one fill can be made at your local pharmacy before switching to specialty mail order.
