Disability

If an illness or injury keeps you from working, disability insurance replaces a portion of your income. IMI automatically provides Short-Term Disability (STD) and Basic Long-Term Disability (LTD) at no cost to you.

What you need to know

How it works

You are automatically enrolled in STD and Basic LTD at no cost to you. If you want additional coverage, you can purchase a voluntary Buy-up LTD option as a new hire, during Open Enrollment, or after a qualifying life event. Your cost is deducted from your paycheck before taxes.

What's covered

Both STD and LTD cover disabilities resulting from illness or injury that prevent you from performing your job. Benefits are offset by any applicable state disability benefits.

What it pays

Here's how much disability insurance pays if you have an approved claim:

  • STD: 60% of pre-disability income, up to $1,500/week for up to 13 weeks
  • Basic LTD: 60% of pre-disability income, up to $6,000/month
  • Buy-up LTD: 66.67% of pre-disability income, up to $15,000/month

Your coverage details

If your disability claim is approved, here is how your benefits work:

These days are not covered by disability insurance. You can use available PTO during this time.

You receive 60% of your pre-disability income, up to $1,500 per week. Benefits end when you recover and return to work, or move to LTD.

  • If you have Basic LTD only: You receive 60% of your pre-disability income, up to $6,000 per month.
  • If you purchase Buy-up LTD: You receive 66.67% of your pre-disability income, up to $15,000 per month.

Benefits continue until you are no longer disabled, reach age 65, or pass away.

Evidence of Insurability (EOI)

If you choose Buy-up LTD, you may need to submit documentation of good health to the insurance carrier, Lincoln Financial, for approval. This documentation is called evidence of insurability (EOI).
